Environmental Impacts of International Transport
Workshop, Leipzig, 27 May 2009 |
Transport is increasingly the focus of climate change policies. The 2008 International
Transport Forum examined policies to mitigate CO2 emissions from surface transport. Its
conclusions on the key measures to reduce emissions are being taken forward, notably
through a Global Fuel Economy Initiative with partner organisations. Globalisation has
been accompanied by conspicuous increases in the volume of aviation and maritime transport
and their emissions of greenhouse gases are growing rapidly. This workshop examined
Policies for reducing the environmental impacts of international transport and cut pollution
cost effectively to optimal levels.
