Shortlist for the Young Researcher Award

Five young researchers from Canada, Greece, Germany and Italy have been shortlisted
for their innovative work in Transport. The winner will be presented with the award and a € 5 000
prize at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, Germany, on 27 May. |

Mr. Hossam ABDELGAWAD is currently a PhD Candidate at the
University of Toronto. He has maintained an outstanding academic
record throughout his undergraduate
and graduate studies. He has developed an innovative approach for the Optimization of Multimodal
Evacuation of Large-Scale Transportation Networks. He published three journal papers and presented
his work in seven international conferences. He taught two graduate courses at University of Toronto
and assisted in teaching many other graduate/undergraduate courses.

With a nearly completed PhD in Industrial Engineering at Laval University (Canada),
Mr. Jean-François AUDY holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a
Bachelor's degree in Forest Engineering. His research on transportation collaboration issues at the
CIRRELT-FOR@C Research Consortium has been conducted in partnership with more than fifteen enterprises,
research institutes and professors from Canada and Sweden. He has presented his research works at
many international academic and professional conferences, leading to several publications. He has
also receive twelve scholarships, the latest is to fulfil four internships abroad in a research
project funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme. |

Dr. Loukas DIMITRIOU is Civil Engineer holding his Diploma and
Ph.D. from National Technical University of Athens (specialization in Transportation Engineering).
His research interests spans over transportation systems design and planning, such as Network
Economics, Environmental Design of Transportation Systems, Competition-Coordination-Cooperation
and Regulation in Transportation, Advanced Computational Methods and Artificial Intelligence. He
(co-)authored more than 50 scientific publications (7 book chapters, 15 peer-reviewed papers in
international journals and more than 30 papers in conference proceedings). He has participated
in many National and European Research Projects, relevant to his interests' topic. |

Fedele IANNONE is research fellow in Naples, Italy, at the
Institute for Service Industry Research (IRAT), which is part of the Italian National Research
Council (CNR). He took a PhD in Economic sciences at the "Federico II" University of Naples,
with a thesis on Applied economics. He collaborates with Italian public and private bodies in
the field of economic-technical analysis, planning and marketing of transportation and logistics
systems. He is also member of the Italian Society of Transport and Logistics Economics (SIET),
and of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME). |

Peter MOCK received a master's degree in Chemistry and
Economics from the University of Ulm (Germany) in 2004. Between 2004 and 2009 he worked at the
Department for Environmental Protection at Daimler AG in Stuttgart (Germany). Additionally,
between 2006 and 2009, he completed his PhD thesis on assessing future market shares of
vehicle technologies and their impact on CO2 emissions at the Institute of Vehicle Concepts of
the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Since January 2010 Peter is Senior Researcher and Country
Lead Europe at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) in Washington DC (USA). |
