Transport CO2 emissions in transition economies
Reducing CO2 emissions in goods transport
Changing behaviour in passenger transport
Discussion between researchers, industry representatives and the audience.
Evening:  Welcome reception hosted by the Finnish Presidency for all participants
Thursday 29 May 2008:   Political Day - Dialogue between Political Decision-Makers and Key Actors
9.00 - 10.00:   Opening Session (plenary)
10.00 - 12.00:   Keynote Speakers (plenary session)
First Keynote:  The energy challenge
High-profile speaker giving broad overview on the energy issue, including security of supply and Emissions, as well as key societal and economic trends likely to influence future demand and behaviour
Second Keynote:  The implication for transport
High profile speaker leading on from the first intervention spelling out the implications for transport, including the situation for different modes
Discussion:  Comments/questions from moderator with two discussants - one industry/one political, followed by a debate in plenary session.
14.00 - 16.00:   Panels (three parallel sessions)
Transport and oil: An inevitable dependence?
Securing and improving access to energy for transport;  Reducing transport oil dependence;  Finding sustainable alternative fuels
How much can technology achieve?
Introducing energy efficient technology for transport
Where can transport policy make a difference?
Implementing integrated policies and planning to increase efficiency and reduce emissions;  Which transport policy actions can be effective in reducing CO2 emissions?
16.30 - 18.30:   Ministerial Session
Possibility for thematic workshops, interest group meetings, stakeholders and partners meetings, demonstration and exhibition visit.
Evening:  Gala Dinner
Friday 30 May 2008:   Concluding Day - Lessons from the 2008 Forum
9.30 - 12.00:   Closing Session (plenary)
This session will begin with a brief summary (5-10 minutes) of each of the three parallel panel sessions of the previous day.  Key Messages discussed by Ministers will also be presented.  In this way, all conference participants will be informed of the main findings of the sessions they could not attend.
Participants will be then invited to comment on the results presented.  Following this discussion, the Secretariat will prepare a synthesis of those comments which will complete the conclusions of the Forum.
