Registration now open for 2015 Summit on "Transport, Trade and Tourism" |
Invitations have been issued to representatives in government and business, research and civil society for the International Transport Forum's 2015 Summit on 27-29 May. More than 1000 key players from the transport, trade and tourism sectors are expected to join transport ministers from ITF's 54 member countries for their Annual Summit in Leipzig, Germany.
Early registration discounts for the Summit are available until
Friday, 10 April.
Among recently confirmed speakers
are:
- Mahmood Ahmed Al Bastaki, the CEO leading Dubai Trade's
Free Zone Establishment (FZE) to become the world's innovative trade and
supply chain e-hub;
- Michael Cramer, Member of the European Parliament
and Chairman of the
Committee on Transport and Tourism;
- Frédéric Mazzella,
sharing economy entrepreneur and founder of BlaBlaCar, Europe's leading ridesharing
community;
- Agnès Ogier, CEO of Thalys, the
international high-speed rail operator;
- Ron Widdows,
Chairman of the World Shipping Council.

Mexican Logistics Roundtable Focuses on
Performance Measurement |
|
|
|
An ITF Roundtable on Logistics Development Strategies and Performance Measurement
brought together international experts on 9-10 March in Queretaro,
Mexico, to debate how best to improve the efficiency of logistics systems. The focus was on collecting data and developing performance indicators to support regulatory reform and achieve policy objectives. Video presentations from the Roundtable will be available on the ITF website shortly. A draft summary document is in preparation for release in April.

Bilateral co-operation and ongoing ITF research work were discussed between Mexican
Vice Minister for Transport Yuriria Mascott and ITF's Head of Research Stephen Perkins in Mexico City on 8 March. ITF is currently working on a Case-Specific Policy Analysis project to review planning for the set-up of a
National Observatory on Transport and Logistics for Mexico.

Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport, received ITF expert Dejan Makovsek in Brussels,
Belgium, on 27 February to discuss infrastructure governance models and explore potential opportunities for collaboration between the Commission and ITF. The meeting took place in the context of ITF Secretary-General José Viegas' presentation to the first ever joint session of all the Directors-General with responsibility for some aspect of transport held that day.
In another engagement with the European Commission, ITF experts Jari Kauppila and Luis Martinez presented the award-winning
ITF International Freight Model to high-level EU representatives in Brussels on 11 March, detailing possible applications of this innovative economic modelling tool to the core corridors of the Trans European Transport Network (T-TEN) and other EU infrastructure projects.
ITF's recent research work and project outputs from the Corporate
Partnership Board were presented at the United Nations Economic Commission
for Europe (UNECE)
Inland Transport Committee by ITF's Head of Policy and
Summit Preparation Mary Crass in Geneva, Switzerland on 24 February. An
overview of the ITF's 2015 Summit and thematic plans for the 2016 Summit were
also presented. Ms Crass also represented ITF at the first meeting of
independent Advisory Committee of the International Road Transport
Union's Global Taxi Network on 5 March in Brussels, and will be
chairing this committee in the future.
Dublin Port's project on cruise shipping and urban
development was the subject of a study mission with relevant stakeholders by
ITF's Bénédicte Busquet and Olaf Merk on 17-19 February in Dublin, Ireland.
Study missions for an ongoing project on the impact of mega-ships
were carried out in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 4-6 March and in
Hamburg, Germany, on 10-12 March.
